My Approach
Trust is the foundation for a successful therapeutic relationship. We will start where you are comfortable starting! I believe in a non-judgmental approach where humility, compassion, and individual experiences are honoured. I am passionate about cultivating a safe and inclusive space for all individuals and collaboratively developing an individualized plan for healing.
I am an integrative therapist that utilizes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is proven to treat PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, depression and dissociation. For some clients I may utilize humanistic approaches, attachment theory, somatic experiencing, mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural Therapy (MCBT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). I tailor my approach to your mental health needs.
My lived experience as a racialized person enables me to hold a safe space and support other racialized people who are seeking support for issues related to inter-generational trauma, hypervigilance, acculturation, anxiety, depression and other mental health barriers. Together we will explore patterns and behaviours that are causing ruptures within your life.
We all have a past----the past is stored in our body. Does a certain sound trigger you?
Has someone ever said something to you and you experience a larger than anticipated reaction? That's trauma stored in the body! Allow yourself the opportunity to discover your triggers, integrate your insights and live life to the fullest.
EMDR is not talk therapy! EMDR is a targeted neuroprocessing intervention that distracts the brain from ruminating, so our mind can fully process a memory and make connections for long-term resolution. I refer to EMDR as full integration where the mind will not revisit our past in an intrusive manner.
The EMDR approach believes past emotionally charged experiences are overly influencing your present emotions, sensations and thoughts about yourself. As an example: "Do you ever feel worthless although you know you a worthwhile person?" EMDR processing helps you break through emotional blocks that are keeping you from living an adaptive, emotionally healthy life.
